You should also be aware of Power outages due to violent thunderstorms. If water is getting into your basement during rainstorms, then the possibility of the thunder knocking out your electrical power can cause water damage and the sump pump not to work. Back-up sump pumps not needing the house's power is the solution to overcome this.
